There are a lot of choices out there to
configure, rip, organize, access, purchase, explore, and certainly
confuse, when it comes to Internet related media.
We’ve put together a short list of service and product
providers who we feel represent a good solution for a task.
We have no affiliation with any of these organizations
(except one), so we cannot guarantee or support any of the services
listed here. If you have
a question regarding any of these services, please feel free to call
us, and we will be happy to relate our own experience, but please
understand that we are not providing support. |

Elgato is an application that provides
UPnP capability for Macs, and it contains a powerful program to
transcode in real time, Apple Lossless
into WAV. The
downloadable application program is EyeConnect, which costs $50.00.
EyeConnect runs in the background, and does not need to be
attended to once it is installed.

iTunes is
obviously the ubiquitous media server program from Apple.
Using iTunes, you can rip cd’s and purchase music and
podcasts. iTunes will
organize all the media and present it to the Music Player, through
the Eye Connect application, in an easy to use format.

Like EyeConnect, TwonkyMedia is an
application that provides UPnP capability for the Mac.
Unlike EyeConnect, it does not provide a transcoding service
from various formats into WAV files.
However, it does offer a more flexible organization for how
different media are sent to the Music Player because it is
not directed specifically at the iTunes user, although it works
perfectly fine with iTunes.
We recommend TwonkyMedia as a good UPnP solution for those
not using iTunes.

Foobar is a media player program for
Windows, very similar to Media Player 11, but with a more flexible
organization component, while also providing transcoding of a
variety of formats.
Foobar requires a UPnP application to communicate with the Music
Player and we suggest using TwonkyMedia for this application.

TwonkyMedia is an application that
provides UPnP connectivity and direction finding for clients like
the Music Player and media players like Foobar.
Unlike EyeConnect, it does not provide a transcoding service
from various formats into WAV files.
However, it does offer a more flexible organization for how
different media are sent to the Music Player because it is not
directed specifically at the iTunes user.
However, by the way, it works perfectly fine with iTunes.

We believe EAC to be the finest CD
ripping software on the market today.
EAC provides a very sophisticated and flexible software
program to rip and tag your CDs in a wide variety of formats, with
complete control over the process.
This free program can be complicated to master as there are
many different ways to use the program, but there are also novice
settings that can make the service straight forward to use.
While compatible with iTunes, it is primarily thought of as a
Windows users platform, and thorough familiarity with both EAC and
iTunes is required to seamlessly blend these two systems.

Netgear provides a variety of hardware
solutions, ranging from routers to Network Attached Storage (NAS)
devices. The Netgear
router appears to be fully compatible with the Music Player client,
and is easily integrated and configured to establish your home
network. A NAS is an
ideal way to store large amounts of music in a convenient way.
A NAS is a data storage device, which is not directly
connected to your computer but to your home network, this is
convenient for those using only laptop devices, where the computer
may not always be available to access the media player organization.
