“Perfect Sound Forever” that was the
promise that was made with the introduction of the CD format to the general
public. It was fantastic
marketing hype, so effective that some people still believe it. But most of
us know that nothing is perfect and most things benefit from continued
research and development. There have been remarkable advances in CD
recording technology, as well as innovations in CD player engineering and
construction. Today’s reference CD players bear little resemblance to the
first CD players introduced in the early 80’s.
Along the way, there have been a small handful of pioneers advancing
the state of the art in digital audio processing. Theory and Application has led the way with
their digital processing research, CD playback technology and fully realized
designs.
The “E Series” CD player, first and
foremost, features a proprietary Theory and Application transport and decoder system.
The disc drive mechanism is a seriously robust design, using the
finest heavy-duty Mabuchi motors, stainless steel push rods that precisely
guide the disc into place, and a very sophisticated disc drawer, which is a
laminate of ABS and metal. The
player has a metal chassis surrounding the entire mechanism that is floating
on vibration, isolation, and suppression systems, all of which provide a
powerful shield from the hostile electronic environment we live in today.
In short, the drive mechanism developed for the “E Series” players is
the most modern and compact loader mechanism on the world market.
All digital signals are passed step by
step within the CD player using proprietary and precise Theory and
Application methods.
Without these precise methods, jitter is introduced to the digital
signal with disastrously audible results. Theory and Application achieves jitter figures so low
and insignificant that they are inaudible!
Burr-Brown converters carry out digital to analog conversion, and two
different oversampling algorithms are for the listeners choosing, each
designed to optimize the playback characteristics of the CD player to your
system. The converted digital signal is then treated to a high-end analog
discrete output stage; complete with a massive dedicated power supply and
two different switchable output bandwidths to further optimize the
electronic system.
Inspired by all their innovative digital
processing research,
the engineers at Theory and Application wanted to develop a product that went a step or
two further combining the ability to access and stream music from the
internet and computer with their new CD player.
They developed an audiophile quality streaming client. Then just for
fun they threw in an FM tuner and lots of connectivity, all of this was
added to the CD player and voila! The Music Player. The brilliance of this
machine is that it uses the same technology developed for the CD player to
carefully treat all of your digital signals, whether they’re from your CD’s,
computer , iPod or MP3 or the internet, and gives you the best possible
sound from every source. Then it plays it all through your high performance
music system. With the Music
Player you can take full advantage of the uncompressed music files that are
now available.
But if the age of mixing Internet radio,
on-line music services and computer storage of your CD’s, are not of
interest to you, then the E Series CD player is your choice.
Treat yourself and your CD’s to a new and vibrant life with the new E
series CD player. It is, after
all, what made everything else in the series possible…
